Federal Pioneer breakers are part of the Stab-Lok breaker system, commonly found in Canadian residential electrical panels. The brand history traces back to Federal Pacific Electric (FPE) in the U.S., and in Canada the line became known as Federal Pioneer, later supported under Schneider Electric.

These breakers are used in Stab-Lok panels, which are still found in many homes built from the 1960s through the 1990s (and sometimes later). The system is identifiable by the panel label that usually reads Federal Pioneer or Stab-Lok.

There is essentially one main breaker family in Federal Pioneer systems can be model NA NC0 , but different series exist depending on panel design and age. Unlike some other brands, they are not typically split into clearly interchangeable “old vs new model numbers” like QBH/BQL. Instead, compatibility is determined by the panel type and breaker style (Stab-Lok).

Federal Pioneer breakers are designed only for Federal Pioneer Stab-Lok panels and are not interchangeable with modern panel systems like Square D QO or Eaton breakers. Using the wrong breaker type will not physically or electrically fit correctly.

These breakers plug onto a stab-style bus bar connection, which gives the system its name. When replacing breakers, it is critical to match:

• Correct pole configuration (1-pole or 2-pole)

• Exact Stab-Lok compatibility for the panel
